Scientists in Town
About the event
Hosted by RobinTalksScience in partnership with Science and Beers, Scientists In Town is a late-night show-style event series held at a local pub in Aarhus, Denmark. Young scientists take the stage to share their passions, experiences, and curiosities about life in science, all within a relaxed, humorous atmosphere. With a comedic twist, the discussions make even complex scientific topics engaging and accessible for the general public. Each event features custom cartoons I create for each speaker, highlighting their research with a humorous touch.

Check out the illustrations I made for the first season!
Quentin's research takes us to the frontiers of climate adaptation in ants. He studies the physiological changes that enable ants to thrive in harsh climatic conditions. His research sheds light on the relationships between these adaptations, shifts in species distribution and the broader implications connected to climate change. | Ida's work focuses on the microbial communities residing on ants' feet. Her innovative research explores the potential of harnessing these microbes as sustainable biocontrol agents, offering an eco-friendly alternative to conventional pesticides. |

Jaishree is specialized in evolutionary ecology and studies how plants communicate below the soil and cooperate with each other, especially in the presence of stress and threats. | Dario is a geneticist expert in plant breeding. He identifies genes responsible for disease/stress resistances in order to to design crossing and selection schemes and produce better varieties for agriculture, gardens and even football fields! |
Søren is a soil scientist who focuses his research on soil and water in relationship with human activities, both today and in the past. Furthermore, he is expert in developing new approaches at the interface between geoscience and other disciplines, like hydrogeochemistry, archaeology, medical sciences, ecoscience and geomorphology. | Alexandre is a biomedical scientist who studies how the brain process rythms. In his experiments, he analyze how the brain synchronizes with rythmic sounds and how different rhytmic patterns are percieved by humans and other species, such as mice. |
Macarena is an expert on the molecular mechanisms behind memory and learning. With the help of neuronal recordings and fluorescence microscopy Macarena studies how neurons are able to identify which synapsis to strength or weaken by tagging specific proteins. | The cartoon is about the fascinating quest of prof. Kai Finster to find traces of life on other planets. As a microbial ecologist, Kai studies life in extreme environments, spanning from Earth's atmosphere to Mars and beyond! He's work at the MarsSimulationLaboratory involves testing the harsh conditions of the red planet on various life forms. |
Mia studies oscillations on the stars surfaces caused by internal sound waves, known as starquakes. These data provide precious information about planets beyond our solar system (i.e. exoplanets)! | Christine studies the effects of boredom on human behaviour. In her research, she investigates how parents manage boredom while taking care of their children as well as how boredom might have an influence on the willingness to consume morbid media. |
Terese focuses her studies on social psychology and its intersection with forensic psychology, victimology, and crime prevention. She is currently working on a project aiming to prevent sexual assault amongst Danish youths, especially focusing on the role of bystanders and the barriers that prevent them to take action. |
